Wigness Inks Eight Signees for 2020-21 Season

BLUFFTON, S.C. - Entering her second year at the helm of the USCB softball program, head coach Bailey Wigness announced the addition of eight signees for the 2020-21 season.

Of the eight commits, two are pitchers, three are outfielders, two are infielders and one is a utility player. Also out of the signing class, three are from South Carolina, two are from Georgia, one is from Tennessee, one is from Maryland and one is from Idaho. 

"We are so excited about our 2020 signing class. They are a very dynamic group that will bring a little bit of everything to this program. Not only are they talented athletes that will make an impact on the field, they are great students and people," said Wigness. 

They are the right fit to help elevate this program. From top to bottom, this class is full of competitors and blue-collar athletes - the type of student-athletes we want here at USCB. We are looking forward to having them in Navy and Sand next fall." 


 

Libby Careylibby

Ridgeville, S.C. | Ashley Ridge HS | SC Fugitives | Pitcher and Infielder

Carey comes to the Lowcountry as a Ridgeville, S.C. native. She will graduate from Ashley Ridge High School alongside fellow USCB commit Zinia Hampleton. Carey is a pitcher and infielder and plays travel ball for the SC Fugitives. 


 

Jaci Coleman

Clyo, Ga. | Effingham County HS | Angels | Outfielder and Infielderjaci

Coleman travels to Bluffton from Clyo, Ga. The 2020-21 commit will graduate from Effingham County High School alongside fellow USCB commit Francie Gaskin. As an outfielder and infielder, Coleman plays for the Angels during the summer. 

While at Effingham County, Coleman was three-time First Team All-Region, two-time Second Team All-State, two-time Greater Savannah Team, Georgia Dugout Club All-Star and Wendy's Heisman School winner. 

Coleman also excels in the classroom, as she has been a member of the Honor Roll for 12 consecutive years. The Sand Shark commit is also a member of the Beta Club, Interact Club and Rebel Rousers. 


 

Franci Gaskin

Guyton, Ga. | Effingham County HS | Angels '02 | Infielder

Gaskin makes the short trek over the Georgia/South Carolina border, as she is a native of Guyton, Ga. Like Coleman, Gaskin will graduate from Effingham County High School. Gaskin was also teammates with Coleman on the Angels travel team, where Gaskin played in thegaskin infield. 

While at Effingham County, Gaskin was named two-time All-Region as well as the Most Valuable Player during her sophomore year at ECHS. Her travel team also finished 15th in the country. Gaskin also earned the prestigious Julia Tarter award at Winshape Camp. 

Aside from softball, the Guyton, Ga. native also played lacrosse and competed in track & field. She is a member of the Rebel Rousers, FCA and a 10-year member at Winshape Camp. 


 

Zinia Hampleton

Ridgeville, S.C. | Ashley Ridge HS | SC Fugitives | Outfielder

Hampleton comes to Bluffton out of Ridgeville, S.C. She, along with fellow USCB commit Carey, will graduate from Ashley Ridge High School in the spring of 2020. The duo also played on the same travel team as well - SC Fugitives. Hampleton is an outfielder and primarily roams centerfield. zinia

Hampleton received the Most Valuable Player award during her junior varsity tenure and has played on her varsity squad since the end of ninth grade. She also earned an award for hitting the most home runs during a tournament during her high school career.

Off the diamond, the future Sand Shark volunteers for special needs and also reads to elementary students. 


 

Haley Massenburg

Summerville, S.C. | Summerville HS | Palmetto Outlaws | Pitcherhaley

Massenburg is familiar with the Lowcountry, as she is a native of Summerville, S.C. She will graduate from Summerville High School in the spring of 2020, and she plays her summer ball, as a pitcher, with the Palmetto Outlaws.

Aside from softball, Massenburg was also a member of the basketball and swim teams. An interesting fact about Massenburg was she was born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. 


 

Jazmin Ramirez

Nampa, Idaho | Ridgevue HS | USA Explosion 18G - Kloczko | Utilityjazmin

As the lone utility player of the 2020-21 class, Ramirez is also traveling the farthest from home to play at USCB - Nampa, Idaho (2,454 miles). The Sand Shark commit plays high school ball at Ridgevue High School and her travel ball for the USA Explosion 18G - Kloczko. 

On the diamond, Ramirez is a Second Team 4A All-SIC infielder, varsity starter for three years and has been state runner-up for the last two seasons. Ramirez is a three-time Honor Roll member as well as a National Honor Society member. 


 

Alyssa Smith

Silver Springs, Md. | Our Lady of Good Counsel HS | Stars National Gold - Adkins | Outfielder

Smith also comes a long way to USCB, as she is a native of Silver Springs, Md. She alyssawill graduate in the spring from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. She plays her summer ball with the Stars National Gold as an outfielder.

Smith has also been a two-time Honorable Mention. Aside from softball, Smith is a decorated member of several sports/groups including, track & field, volleyball, clay target team, campus ministry leader and archery club.

Smith enjoys playing the cello and wants to become a veterinary ophthalmologist after graduation. 


 

Devon Weller

Knoxville, Tenn. | Farragut HS | Maryville Magic | InfielderDevonWebsite

Rounding out the eight signees is Weller, who travels to USCB from Knoxville. Weller will graduate from Farragut High School, and she is an infielder for her travel team - the Maryville Magic. 

Weller has earned All-Tournament honors during her high school career and has been a member of the National Honor Society, while also volunteering at the East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
