BABSON PARK, Fla. - Rookie right-hander Sloan Ducey threw a no-hitter in the 10-0 victory over Webber, while the USCB softball team dropped an extra-inning, 2-1 decision in game one of the doubleheader against the Warriors on Wednesday at Nancy Nichols Field.
INSIDE THE GAME ONE BOX SCORE
Emily Martin - 2-for-4, double, one run, one walk
Natassja Hatcher and Canyon Crosby - one hit apiece
Crosby - 7.1 innings, no earned runs, six hits, two strikeouts
HOW GAME ONE HAPPENED
The first game of the doubleheader was a pitching duel for both squads. However, both clubs had opportunities to plate runs early. In the first three innings, USCB and Webber combined for 10 runners left on base.
The Sand Sharks broke the scoreless contest in the fourth via a Warrior error. Martin cracked a two-out double, and after advancing to third, the third baseman scored off an error by the Webber pitcher.
The two teams again had chances to score in the fifth and sixth innings, as the two clubs combined for six runners left on base. Three of those were left stranded in the bottom of the sixth where Crosby forced a ground out to get out of the bases-load jam.
Webber scored its first run in the bottom of the seventh off a Sand Shark error with one out. USCB was able to force extra innings, despite having the game-winning run on third base.
Billingsley started the eighth on second base due to extra-inning rules, and the pinch runner moved to third off a Webber error. The Sand Sharks couldn't plate the go-ahead run, as the next three batters went down in order.
Webber International took advantage of the scoreless USCB frame, as Cassidy Roberts connected with the game-winning double to claim the first game, 2-1.

HOW GAME TWO HAPPENED
Unlike game one of the doubleheader, the USCB offense had no issues scoring. In fact, the Sand Sharks plated four runs in the first inning. Boyle and Domingue started the rally with back-to-back singles. The Sand Sharks scored one run off two straight walks from Haley Hawkins and O'Hearn. With the bases loaded, Webber committed an error to allow Domingue to touch home. WIU made a pitching change, but Moore smacked a single up the middle to take the commanding 4-0 lead.Â
After a scoreless second, USCB added five runs off seven hits in the third frame. Kaleigh Furbush opened the scoring with a RBI single to right field. Taylor Boykin dropped a bunt base hit, and Boyle drilled a run-scoring single to left field to take the 6-0 advantage. Domingue followed with a two-RBI double to score Boykin and Melina Martinez. To end the scoring, O'Hearn tallied a double down the right field line to give USCB the nine-run lead.
USCB scored the key 10th run in the top of the fifth, as O'Hearn cracked another clutch hit. Her double to left center scored Hawkins to give the Sand Sharks the double-digit lead.
Sloan continued her dominance in the circle, as she capped off the no-hitter with three fly outs.
