Crosby Walks Off In Quarterfinals of Sun Conference Tournament

CLERMONT, Fla. - To kick off The Sun Conference Championship, senior Canyon Crosby walked off to give USCB softball the 1-0 victory in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament on Thursday at the Legends Way Ballfields.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Sloan Ducey - seven innings, shutout, four hits, no walks, four strikeouts

Crosby - game-winning RBI hit

Taylor Boykin - 2-for-3, one double, one run

Shania Dominigue - 2-for-3, two singles

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams opened the game with one hit each, but neither squad could muster a run in the opening frame.

In the bottom of the second inning, USCB had a chance to score the game's first run, as it tallied three, two-out hits. However, the trio of Sand Sharks were stranded.

The next several innings went by quickly for both teams. Ducey settled in the circle, as she only scattered three hits over the next six innings.

The biggest hit came in the final inning, as Crosby provided the game-winning hit with one out. Boykin led the seventh inning off with a walk, and Kayla Boyle moved her teammate into scoring position off a sacrifice bunt. Domingue put two runners on base via her second hit of the game, and Crosby plated the decisive run through the right side to give USCB the 1-0 victory.

WHAT'S NEXT?

With its victory on Thursday, USCB will now face No. 4 Webber at 2 p.m. in the semifinal round of the Sun Conference Tournament. If the Sand Sharks win, they will advance to the championship game on Saturday, May 4 at noon. If USCB loses on Friday to the Warriors, it will turnaround to play the winner of game eight of the tournament on Friday night.
