How It Happened
USCB wasted no time from opening touch, as it ripped two shots in the first five minutes. Bye-Andersen and Kalvatn nearly tucked the shots away, but their attempts hit the crossbar and were saved, respectively.Â
After two close scoring chances, Harr-Haga put away the game's first goal in the sixth minute. Kalvatn took a quick corner to Bye-Andersen. The freshman forward worked into the 18-yard box and dished a pass back to Harr-Haga, who then found the back of the net to give USCB the early 1-0 lead.
Thomas had a couple of looks at goal in the 9th to 23rd minutes, but Ruckdeschel stayed strong between the pipes and made three saves to keep the Night Hawks off the scoreboard.Â
After dominating possession for the next 20 minutes, USCB finally rippled the twine again with just 14 seconds left in regulation. After working through the middle of the field, Baldo dished a pass towards Brodersen. The Thomas defender beat the forward to the ball and attempted to clear the ball. On the clearance, Brodersen immediately stuck her foot out and redirected the ball into the TU net, which doubled USCB's lead, 2-0.
Kicking off the three-goal second half was a quick tally from Kalvatn in the 50th frame. Bye-Andersen worked up the right side of the field, and she eventually fed a ball to Kalvatn, who made the easy tap-in into the left side of the goal. The goal was Kalvatn's 15th tally of the 2021 season.
Up 3-0, Foshee collected an impressive goal in the 66th minute with an assist by Downey. On the far side of the pitch, Downey dished a ground pass to Foshee just outside of the 18-yard box. The sophomore midfielder then ripped a shot from distance, which struck the right side of the net to make it 4-0, USCB.
The Sand Sharks again continued to pepper the Night Hawk net, as they posted four shots on goal until a few minutes left in regulation.
With time dwindling, Stalnacke tucked away her first goal of the season to make the contest 5-0. Gaines worked up the right side of the pitch, and Stalnacke was positioned on the back post to redirect the pass into the left side of the net in the 88th minute.Â
