HOW IT HAPPENED

Ave Maria quickly broke the game open, as it tallied two goals in the first 14 minutes. Sisters Rachel and Emily Dalton scored the goals for AMU to take the 2-0 lead.

The Sand Sharks really found their groove from the 33rd minute-on, as it dominated possession and peppered the Gyrene net for the final 12 minutes of the first half. With just 41 seconds remaining in the first half, Foshee cut the deficit in half. Kalvatn whipped a cross, and Foshee headed the ball into the left side of the net.

Despite being down 2-1 at half, USCB held the 8-7 in total shots in the first 45-minute session.

USCB didn't change its plan at the intermission, as it continued to maintain possession and attack the Gyrene net.

After four shot attempts, the fifth one found the net in impressive fashion. After a clearance by the Gyrene defense, Harr-Haga settled the bouncing ball and ripped a shot on frame. With perfect arch, the ball sailed over the Ave Maria goalkeeper and into the net to knot the game, 2-2, in the 60th minute.

Without giving in, USCB took its first lead nine minutes later off a free kick. Harr-Haga took the kick from distance. With pin-point accuracy, the freshman found Foshee flying through the air. Foshee redirected the ball to the right side of the net to give the Sand Sharks the one-goal lead, 3-2.

With just over eight-and-a-half minutes remaining in regulation, the Gyrenes tied the contest up again, 3-3. Emily Dalton tallied the goal after a clearance from Worrell.

With five minutes left, USCB attacked the AMU net but couldn't ripple the twine, as the two clubs forced overtime.

Just over a minute into the first overtime session, Synne Bye-Andersen had a prime opportunity to put the game away. However, her shot hit the cross bar and trickled out of harm's way.

After neither team scored in the first overtime period, the two clubs were forced to play the final 10-minute, golden-goal overtime.

Halfway into the final overtime, USCB was mounting a strong attack. To stop it, a Gyrene fouled a Sand Shark inside the penalty box to gift USCB a penalty kick. Downey took the penalty and put it into the right side of the goal to give USCB the 4-3 victory.
