HOW IT HAPPENED
USCB's and St. Andrews' offenses were red-hot in the first inning, as both clubs collected four runs in the first frame. USCB collected three of its four runs off one swing of the bat - Morgan's bases-clearing, three RBI double. Capping off the inning was Morgan scoring on a Knight error.
All tied at 4-4, the Knights plated a pair of runs in the next inning to take a 6-4 lead.
In the third and fourth innings, USCB's and SAU's offenses struggled to score runs - despite having runners on base (seven combined runners left on base during that stretch). Of those seven left on base, USCB had five of those, including leaving the bases loaded in the top of the fourth.
The Sand Sharks and Knights traded runs in the fifth to make it a 7-5 game. Meyer cracked a two-out, ground-rule double to score Sellers for USCB's run in the frame.
In the next two frames (sixth and seventh), St. Andrews plated three unanswered runs to push the lead to five, 10-5.
After a quiet eighth, the Sand Sharks tried to mount a comeback and nearly did in the ninth. Daniel Searles started the inning with a walk. Jack Slavin traded places with his teammate on a fielder's choice, and Wesley Ambrose followed with an infield single to put two runners on base. Later in the frame, Slavin was able to touch home to make it 10-6, but SAU recorded the final out before more runs scored.
