How It Happened

USCB took the challenge to drive eight hours and play the No. 21 team in the country - and what a game it was.

USCB started the game the better of the two teams dominating possession and getting a well-earned goal in the 16th minute.

Squandering chances to double the lead, the game evened out after 25 minutes until halftime.

The second half continued like the end of the first with both teams having opportunities to find the twine.

One the best chances came in the 60th minute with a one-on-one opportunity that USCB failed to capitalize on.

Unfortunately, seven mites later Cumberland scored off a free kick in the 67th minute to tie the game at 1-all.

The game continued to go back-and-forth after Cumberland scored with both teams taking even shots at each other's net.

With the game going into overtime, it was an opportunity for either team to finish the game with a goal.

Unfortunately, the match ended in the first minute of overtime off yet another free kick from distance from the Phoenix. The ball found the net, as a Cumberland player directed the ball on goal after USCB won the initial header.

The Sand Sharks showed, yet again, they can compete with the elite programs in the country.

Team Record Updates

USCB - 3-2 overall

No. 21 Cumberland - 4-1 overall
