HOW IT HAPPENED
USCB, more specifically - Castro, started the contest off with a bang - a solo, leadoff homer to left, which gave the Sand Sharks the early advantage, 1-0.
The lead quickly disappeared in the bottom of the second when Matt Collins connected with a two-run homer. The homer gave the Barons the 2-1 lead.
After a quick second frame, Harper decided to jump in on the home run derby, as he crushed a leadoff homer of his own. The long ball was his first of his career in a Sand Shark uniform.
After leaving two Barons on base in the bottom of the third, USCB produced a seven-run top of the fourth, which gave the Sand Sharks the commanding 9-2 lead. Russ demolished a two-run home run of his own, and four batters later, Harper scored Thibodeaux on a bases-loaded sac fly. Galassi was then able to score via a BPC error, and Castro cleared the bases with a two-RBI double to make it an 8-2 contest. Advancing to third on a wild pitch, Milhan poked a sacrifice fly to make the lead seven, 9-2.
In the fifth, Harper stayed red-hot, as he collected a clutch, two-RBI single to push the lead to nine, 11-2.
Brewton-Parker was able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the fifth, but USCB's offense exploded again in the sixth frame. Russ collected his second home run of the contest. This time it was a grand slam and put USCB ahead 15-3. Following two walks and a hit by pitch, Thibodeaux touched home on a ground out. With two more Sand Shark walks to force the bases loaded, Milhan was hit by a pitch to push the advantage to 14, 17-3.Â
BPC put up some offense in the sixth and seventh innings, but it was too little too late, as USCB claimed its fourth straight win, 17-7.Â
