The first three innings flew by for both teams. That stretch was ended in the fourth and fifth innings when Webber broke onto the scoreboard with three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth.
Despite being down 3-0, the Sand Sharks chipped away at the deficit. In the sixth inning, Meyer poked a RBI single to score Castro, while Robbie Brown plated Milhan on a run-scoring ground out.
USCB made it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh when Castro struck two-out magic. The senior cracked a single to center, which allowed Hunter McKown to score easily.
After a quiet eighth, USCB surrendered an unearned run in the top of the ninth to make the game 5-3, WIU.
However, USCB didn't cave. In fact, the Sand Sharks started a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning en route to walking off over No. 18 Webber. Tanner made it a one-run game thanks to a throwing error by the WIU catcher. Two batters later, Harper came up clutch with a pinch-hit, game-tying RBI single up the middle. Harper cruised into second on a wild pitch, and with two outs, Milhan smoked a single to right center, which allowed Harper to score without a throw. With the late surge, USCB won game one, 6-5.
