Bye-Andersen nets game-winner, Worrell breaks all-time shutout record, USCB victorious on senior day

BLUFFTON -- A second half that was controlled primarily by USCB ended in celebration as the Norwegian connection of Synne Bye-Andersen and Mari Kalvatn sent the electric crowd at Fin Land Field home happy with a 1-0 win over Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon. The victory also secured the Sand Sharks the 5th seed in the Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer tournament starting on Nov. 6th.

Junior goalkeeper, Emily Worrell picked up her second shutout of the season, and in the process breaking the previous all-time shutout record of 11 held by Chelsie Jones (formally Mummert).

"Congrats, Emily on your 12th career shutout," Jones said via text message. "It's been amazing seeing this team and it's players continue to get better ever since 2011. Glad to see the record finally be broken!"

The Hurricanes had only one chance in the first half, but Worrell made a spectacular save off a shot from Teresa Rodriguez.

Beaufort controlled much of the second half before netting the game-winner. Savanna Page had back-to-back opportunities off headers but they missed just wide on both. After the goal, GSW battled back and scored what appeared to be the game-tying goal but it was called off after the linesman signaled that the Hurricane's forward was offsides. After a quick conference to confirm, the goal was waved off and the Sand Sharks maintained its one goal lead.

Bye-Andersen created another chance with only minutes to play, blasting a shot that rattled off the woodwork, but the stout Sand Shark defense held off the Cane's last-minute attack to hold onto the victory.

USCB will conclude its regular season with two more non-conference games against Allen on Monday before wrapping up the home schedule against South Carolina State on Thursday.

"A great day from start to finish," said coach Jay Harris. "We have had good energy leading up to this and to end conference and send our seniors off with a win is special. I am thankful to be a part of this group and appreciate everything everyone has done to this point."
