Sand Shark wrap roadtrip with loss at UNG

DAHLONEGA -- USCB women's soccer concluded its longest road trip of the year with a 2-0 loss to North Georgia, but the Sand Sharks hung defensively with a Night Hawk team receiving votes in the NCAA DII Top 25 poll.

"A resilient performance on the road against one of the best teams in the country," said head coach Jay Harris. "I'm proud of our effort and grit and we will continue to use each game to be better."

The Night Hawks outshot the Sand Sharks 21-3, but Graysen Asher faced 14 shots on goal and made 12 saves.

"Defense played well and I'm very proud of our effort. We battled and never gave up anything."

USCB's defense was on display during much of the first half as Asher stopped six of the seven shots faced. It was in the 37th minute that the Night Hawks scored the game's first goal. Meghan O'Brien centered a ball from inside the 18-yard box to Natalie Maguire as she shielded Beaufort's defense and flicked it past Asher to make it 1-0.

The Sand Sharks continued to hang with UNG, thwarting multiple scoring opportunities from North Georgia throughout the second half, but in the 61st minute, Mychael Fruits went 1-v-1 with Asher and found the back of the net.

USCB returns home Wednesday to continue Peach Belt play against rival USC Aiken before hosting Allen University on Saturday. Kickoff against the Pacers is scheduled for 1 p.m.

"I'm looking forward to coming home and playing USC Aiken on Wednesday at Fin".
