BLUFFTON -- For the third consecutive game, USCB has shined offensively as the Sand Sharks remain unbeaten on the young season after defeating visiting Voorhees 100-74 Saturday evening at the USCB Rec Center.
"It was a great team win," said coach Ron Fudala. "We still have a lot to learn from and our guys are working hard. But we want to keep getting better and continue to represent USCB."
Four of the five starters were in double-figures for the Sand Sharks. Led by Marcus Overstreet's 21 points. Quahrn Anderson and Kevaughn Price both posted 16 while Larry Bulluck had 12 in his first start of the year. Kobe Shewry continued his sharp shooting from beyond the arc, going 4-for-7 and post 17 points off the bench.
The Sand Sharks were firing on all cylinders to open the game, starting on a 9-1 run over the opening four minutes. Shewry's first triple of the night put USCB 12 and the lead was extended to 17 after Kyle Polce drilled a three-ball home half way through the period. But the Tiger's relentlessly kept on the pressure, going on a 17-8 run over five minutes to make it three point game.
Overstreet's first dunk of the night pushed the lead back seven but Voorhees fought all the way back to net it at 40 with 90 seconds to play in the half. Larry Bulluck drained a three-pointer and followed with a fast break layup, making it a five-point game but Hector Rosario's last second jumper made it 45-44 at the break.
The game remained tied through the first two minutes, but the Tigers took its first lead of the night after Dayreontae Foster hit a three-pointer. However, the lead was short lived as Shewry went 3-for-3 from the charity stripe to give USCB a two-point lead and the Sand Sharks offense kicked it into another gear.
Shewry hit two more triples and Bulluck added one of his own to make it a 10-point game. Price and Bulluck connected on a huge alley-oop, sending shockwaves through the Frenzy as Beaufort would knock 9-of-11 free throws to hit the century mark for the third straight game.
The Sand Sharks are back on the hardwood this Tuesday as they begin the "River Rivalry" with Savannah State University at the Savannah Hoops Invitational. USCB and the Tigers are scheduled for a 7:30 tip at Enmarket Arena.
