Five post double figures; Sand Sharks tame Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE – USCB men's basketball flexed its muscles Thursday night as the Sand Sharks had five players score double-figures as it knocked off Edward Waters 99-78 inside the Adams-Jenkins Community Sport and Music Complex.

Quahrn Anderson finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 17 points and nine boards while Marcus Overstreet competed his third double-double with 20 points and 15 caroms. Kevaughn Price and Larry Bullick contributed 15 and 14 points respectively and Nolan Paladugu and Kenney Gaines combined for 23 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
"Appreciate the efforts of our men in a hostile, yet great environment from Edward Waters," coach Ron Fudala said. "We set a few goals defensively going into the game and we accomplished those goals. Love how our guys played as a team and played to our standard. Big time team effort with contributions from all. Excited to continue working to build our culture."

It was an electric crowd inside the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports and Music Complex during a strong opening half for both teams. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, but Anderson quieted the crowd with a one-handed slam dunk giving USCB its first lead of the night. EWU went on a 7-4 run over 75 seconds, retaking the lead at 13-9. But it was Nolan Paladugu that started a long run for the Sand Sharks, draining a three-ball from the corner.

Beaufort went on a 20-6 run for nearly six minutes taking a 10-point lead. Paladugu drained another three-pointer to give USCB its largest lead at 12, but Edward Waters trimmed the lead back to single digits not long after the bucket. But it was Bullck's triple that gave USCB back its double-digit lead heading into the half.

The Sand Sharks opened the second half on a 10-4, moving ahead by 17. USCB kept the lead in double-figures thwarting off the Tiger's fast paced offense. USCB's high-octane offense continued to shine as the Sand Sharks pushed the lead all the way up 21 after Overstreet laid one in. Beaufort outslugged throughout the Tigers for the rest of the game, capping a 99-78.

The Sand Sharks are back in action on Saturday, December 9th as it'll host the Regent University to begin the last of its non-conference schedule.
