Trio of M's net six goals as USCB routes Knights

BLUFFTON – Marcela Shartouny, Mari Kalvatn, and Molly Kerr each scored two goals apiece and Kennedy Harris netted her second goal in as many games as USCB women's soccer put on a dominate performance Tuesday afternoon at Fin Land Field knocking of St. Andrews 7-1.

"It was a good team performance," said coach Jay Harris. "Great for everyone to get minutes and spread the goals."

USCB controlled nearly all the first period, dominating time of possession 80-20. Kerr ended the Sand Sharks scoreless first half streak in the 19th minute, scoring her first goal of the season off one of Beaufort's 10 corners in the half. The Charleston native found the back of the net 10 minutes later, again off a corner from Eva Kristjansdottir to go up 2-0. Kalvatn put the Sand Sharks up three with a beautifully placed shot from 25-yards out set up by Kristen Wiley's first collegiate assist.

The Knights earned a penalty kick with five minutes remaining in the half and Shannon Primrose-Smith found the back of the net to put St. Andrews on the board.

"It's feels good to go out and put together a strong outing," said Kalvatn. "We were able to get a good win and get valuable minutes before Saturday's conference opener."

Beaufort's second half started off just as strong, as Kalvatn found a streaking Shartouny down the right wing and the senior duo put the Sand Sharks up three. Just six minutes later, Kalvtan ripped a shot passed St. Andrew's keeper for her second goal of the game and 46th of her career.

The Kalvatn-Shartouny connection found the back of the net again after USCB went two-on-one with the goalkeeper and Shartouny made it a five-goal lead as she walked in it over the goal line. Harris got in on the fun adding her second goal of the season after picking up a cross from Jenny Hesby outside of the 18.

"A seven-goal performance is a nice accomplishment," Shartouny said. "It's great we got a few more names on the scoresheet, but there's still work to be done heading into this weekend with Clayton State."

The Sand Sharks continue its homestand as they'll open Peach Belt play with Clayton State on Saturday. Last season USCB defeated the Lakers 1-0 to earn the program's first PBC victory. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

"The focus is now on conference opener on Saturday," said Harris.
