BLUFFTON -- For the first time this season, USCB took a loss on its home court as the Lander Bearcats defeated the Sand Sharks 88-65 Wednesday night.
Kevaughn Price led the way for the Sand Sharks scoring 16 points and picking up five rebounds. The Sand Shark's big man, Marcus Overstreet was back in double-figures with 10 points and fell just two boards shy of a double-double.
"Proud of our effort," said coach Ron Fudala. "We played an even game in the second half. We have to have a consistent game. We've had good halves and bad halves, if we play that way and how we know how to play, I believe we can compete against anyone in this league."
The game remained close during the opening five minutes as the teams went back and forth with ties and lead changes. Nolan Paladugu knocked down both ends from the free throw line to give USCB a two-point lead. After tying the it on the next possession Nigel Colvin knocked down a three-pointer giving the Bearcats the lead it wouldn't relinquish. An 11-2 run followed for LU before Larry Bulluck ended the run with a triple. Lander stretched its lead to as large as 21 late in the half and went into the half up 17.
USCB cut into the Bearcats lead throughout the second half but Lander maintained at least and 11-point lead throughout the half and LU held on for the 88-65 victory.
The Sand Sharks continue its conference homestead as it hosts Georgia Southwestern on Saturday for a 3:30 scheduled tipoff. Saturday's contest can be seen live on the Sand Shark Gameday Network.
