MILLEDGEVILLE -- Five Sand Sharks posted double-digit performances and USCB led from the tip, earning a 97-83 road victory over Georgia College Wednesday night, ending a three-game skid.
Marcus Overstreet posted his sixth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Kevaughn Price continued his excellent play, picking up 16 points, six boards and dishing out four assists while Kenney Gaines had his best night in the navy and sand matching his season-high in points with 14 and picking nine caroms to go along with three assists.
Qurahn Anderson scored in double-figures for the second straight game collecting 15 points and Tasso Sfanos went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc for his 12 points off the bench.
USCB's fast-paced offense was on display through the first three minutes as the Sand Sharks jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead, but the Bobcats quickly tied it up at eight two possessions later. But it was Gaines' triple from the wing that sparked a 9-4 run over three minutes as Beaufort took seven point lead. Anderson increased the lead to nine after a strong defensive board from Shea Champine who threw a baseball pass to the Savannah native for the bucket.
Beaufort's defense kept the Bobcats shooting under 40 percent for most of the period and held a lead as large as 16 at one point but GCSU picked up three steals that turned into points with under five to play and trimmed USCB's to single digits when the final media timeout was called in the first half. Gaines drained a three-ball with 1:32 remaining to push the Sand Shark's lead back to double-figures heading into the break leading 46-37.
Georgia College stepped up the tempo opening the second half quickly making it a two-point game, but Price sunk a three-pointer and Overstreet followed with a layup and Nolan Paladugu hit a triple, quickly pushing the lead back to 10. Beaufort padded its lead following a three-ball from Sfanos and Overstreet picked up his 10th rebound and 20th point with 8:10 remaining, keeping the Sand Sharks lead in double-figures.
The Sand Sharks answered any score from the Bobcats with a bucket of their own, never allowing GCSU to pull back within single-digits. Beaufort continues the two-game road trip as it travels to Dahlonega, Georgia on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff with the Night Hawks.
