TOCCOA -- Ellis Bright and Nikolai Holme each carded subpar rounds in the first day of the Currahee Collegiate Invitational, putting USCB atop the leaderboard with a score of 3-under, leading a field full of top 40 ranked teams.

The sophomore duo of Bright and Holme shined through the first 36 holes. Holme shot a tournament-leading 3-under in the first round and Bright followed by moving up 18 spots after posting a 4-under score in round two.

The Sand Sharks head into the final round with three players in the top three.

ROUND ONE
The Jessheim native put together a terrific first round shooting a 3-under 69. Holme began the round with a birdie on the par 4 8th and he would be even the next three holes. A double-bogey on the par 3 12th moved him to 1-over but he would go on to par the next five holes before picking up a birdie on 18. Back-to-back pars kept him even through 11 but his birdie on number 3 followed up by consecutive birdies on 5 and 6 moved him into a tie for first a 3-under.

Erik Rengardt continued his strong play to start his career for USCB, carding a 1-under 71 in the opening round. After bogeying the par 4 6th he would post two birdies on 7 and 9 before making the turn. He stayed even through the back nine of the course and bogeyed hole one before picking up his third birdie of the day on number 3.

Bright and Aaron Williams both shot 3-over in the first round. Bright started off strong shooting even par through his first five holes and went to 1-under with a birdie on 10. But a double-bogey followed by two more bogeys put him at 3-over. Williams sat at 1-over through seven and flirted around the even par mark, but he sandwiched two bogeys between two birdies on the back before ending his round with a 75.

Eric Nord rounded out USCB's quintet and sat at 7-over through 10 holes. He picked up birdies on numbers 1 and 4 but ended his round with a bogey on number 8 to finish round one at 6-over.

ROUND TWO
Bright double-bogeyed to start his second round but quickly righted the ship rattling off five consecutive birdies from holes 7-11. The Trowbridge native was even through the next nine holes before picking up the final birdie of his round on the par 4 third.

Holme was 1-under through his first seven holes, which included a birdie on the par 5 10th, but back-to-back bogeys on 15 and 16 put him at 1-over. After making the turn at 18 he double-bogeyed hole number one but finished his round strong with two birdies in the final four holes.

Rengardt, the third member of USCB's quintet at the top of the leaderboard shot an even 72 in the second round, is tied for third at 1-under with Bright. Williams was 1-under after 12 holes but dropped to 2-over after a double-bogey on number 2 and a bogey on 4 but he would birdie 5 and then finished his round with an eagle to finish 1-under for the round.

Nord jumped 12 spots following his 6-over first round, carding a 72 and remains 6-over for the tournament.

The Sand Sharks teed off this morning at 9 a.m. for the final round.
