Second half rally nets draw with Lakers

MORROW -- USCB and Clayton stayed played to a stalemate during the first half of Saturday's key conference game and the Sand Sharks fell behind 2-0 early in the second half, but the resilient USCB squad battled back to tie the game in the final minutes, to earn a draw at Laker Field.

Beaufort currently holds on to the sixth seed in the Peach Belt standings with one more conference match up set for Saturday at Fin Land. USCB will welcome regular season champions, Columbus State to the Lowcountry for its final game of the regular season.

The Sand Sharks controlled almost the entirety of the first half, outshooting the Lakers 7-3. Emily Worrell only had to make one save during the first 45 minutes.

After starting period two in similar fashion to the first half, Clayton's Carrie Consolino scored twice in a five minute span to take control of the match. But USCB battled back and pressed during the closing minutes. Kassi Martin scored her team-high fourth goal of the year in the 73 minute, trimming the deficit to one and then Sami Ruby knotted the game at two in the final seconds. Beaufort had an opportunity to score the game-winner in the final 28 seconds after a cross from Synne Bye-Andersen to Savanna Page nearly found the back of the net, but Page's header nicked the post and went over the back line.

Saturday's matchup with the Cougars will have plenty of playoff implications, a win or tie could secure the Sand Sharks the sixth seed in the PBC tournament and a loss could drop USCB to seventh or eighth depending on the outcome of other games around the conference. The regular season finale is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Fin Land Field.
