Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brackin Lambert

Sand Sharks improve to 4-0 with win over WVWC

BUCKHANNON -- A late threat put the Sand Sharks three-game winning streak in jeopardy, but Kevaughn Price hit a clutch free throw with only seconds to play and USCB hung on for an 87-76 victory over the West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats on Sunday at the Rockerfeller Center in Buckhannon.

Four USCB players posted double-figures in the victory, led by freshman Dominc Eason's 22. Nolan Paladugu dropped a season-high 19 while Dylan Lewis and Price both contributed 14 points apiece. The Sand Sharks improve to 4-0 on the season, surpassing last year's 3-0 start in its inaugural season.

The teams exchanged points early through the first half, but it was the Bobcats who took a two-score advantage after back-to-back three-pointers with under 12 to play. USCB quickly tied up just minutes later after a Kenney Gaines steal and dunk followed by a Paladugu three ball, tying the game at 23.

At the 4:23 mark, Eason threw down a slam dunk and then Tasso Sfanos followed with long three-pointer, giving Beaufort the lead 40-37. Eason scored all seven of the Sand Shark's final points of the half, putting USCB up 51-46 at the break.

Eason stayed hot to open the second half, throwing down a two-handed jam to give Beaufort an eight-point lead. WVWC tied at 62 with 12 minutes remaining and took the lead on the next possession. The lead was short lived, though after Paladugu sunk his fourth triple of the game, putting the Sand Sharks up 65-64.

There were 10 ties and lead changes throughout the game, but none of them bigger when the Bobcats were called for a flagrant foul with only seconds to play and Price went 1-for-2 from the charity stripe to secure the victory for Beaufort.

USCB continues its season-opening road trip traveling to Denmark, South Carolina this week for a matchup against the Voorhees Tigers. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
