Ralat leads way, Sand Sharks improve to 6-0 after win over Tigers

BLUFFTON -- For the first time in front of their home fans, the Sand Sharks took the court inside the Cove, and they did not disappoint, picking up a 89-72 victory over the Edward Waters Tigers Saturday night.
 
Alejandro Ralat scored a team-leading 17 points, and four others posted double-figure outings in the victory. Hudson Norton and Kenney Gaines combined for 26 points while Dylan Lewis and Kevaughn Price each scored 11.
 
USCB opened on 13-0 run forcing the Tigers to burn a timeout to slow the rally. But Edward Waters battled all the way back to knot the game at 24 with just over six minutes left in the first half. Polce connected with one from the elbow to recapture the lead for the Sand Sharks and the senior out of Pittsburgh went 1-for-2 from the free throw line, making it a three-point lead. Gaines scored on the next two possessions, followed by Dylan Lewis' triple as the Sand Sharks recaptured its six-point lead heading into halftime. 
 
EWU quickly made it a one-point game as the half started, but Tasso Sfanos scored the next five points for USCB as Beaufort held a four-point lead at the first media timeout. Ralat connected on a fast-break three-pointer, and the Sand Sharks pushed the lead back to seven with just over 14 to play. Sfanos connected with another triple, stretching the lead to 10. After the Edward Waters tied the game at 60, Ralat was pure from the charity stripe to retake the lead for the Sand Sharks. Over the next five minutes Beaufort stretched its lead to back to 10 after Price and Ralat knocked down three-pointers and Norton scored 10 points during a 12-5 run that lasted 1:40.
 
USCB squares off with Savannah State in the "River Rivalry" game Tuesday at Enmarket Arena. Tipoff with the Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m.
