Bowman’s spark not enough as Sand Sharks fall to Tigers

BLUFFTON -- Three players scored in double figures, led by sophomore Taniyah Bowman's 18, but the Sand Sharks fell to the visiting Edward Waters Tigers 63-56 Saturday afternoon inside the Cove.
 
Brielle Bartelt and Shaniya Rose rounded out Beaufort's offense, scoring 10 points apiece.
 
EWU jumped out to early lead, but Bowman's spark off the bench brought the Sand Sharks back to within one with under three minutes to play in the first period. The Tigers closed out on a 6-0 run to end the quarter up 21-15.
 
Beaufort slowly cut into Edward Waters lead during the second quarter, but the Tigers kept the pressure and went into break up eight. 
 
USCB's offense came out of the locker room strong bringing the score to within a single possession, courtesy of Bowman's jumper and the Sand Sharks kept battling back to within two or three points but EWU kept them at arm's length.
 
Bowman made it a three-point game later in the fourth quarter with her lone triple of the game, but the Sand Sharks were forced to foul, and the Tigers were pure from the line to end the game.
 
Beaufort rekindles the "River Rivalry" with Savannah State on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. scheduled tipoff.
