Sand Sharks fall in game one, walked off by Lions in night cap

SAINT LEO -- USCB game two comeback falls just short as the #21 Lions walked off the Sand Sharks in the nightcap, 9-8 after taking game one 9-1 earlier in the day to start a three-game series.

USCB's offense struggled until finally breaking through in the eighth inning after Driscoll-Sadusky laced an RBI double down the left field line. The Sand Sharks scattered nine hits and left nine runners on base. The Lions broke through in the first plating two early runs and added two more in the fourth and sixth before capping off its offense with a three run seventh.

Josh Patterson took the loss for the Sand Sharks tossing four innings allowing four runs, two earned on six hits while striking out two and walking three. Brayton Wilmes relived Patterson working three innings and allowed five runs. Avery Sikes worked a scoreless eighth inning striking out one.

The Sand Sharks pushed across two runs in the first inning courtesy of a Brian Meyer RBI groundout and a Nikko Andre single to right, but Saint Leo tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. The Lions added another run in the third, but Beaufort regained the lead after Hunter Miller ripped a two-run double to the right centerfield gap, to make it 4-3. SLU plated four in the bottom of the fifth, but USCB clawed its way back scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh.

A throwing error in the eighth allowed USCB to tie the game at seven heading into the ninth and coach Ted Falkner called upon freshman closer Ian Barnes to preserve the tie, but a leadoff single and balk put the winning run in scoring position and Yazael Nunez singled to right to end the game.

Tomorrow's game three has been moved up to 10 a.m. due to inclement weather in Saint Leo.
