Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brackin Lambert

Heartbreaker; Sand Sharks loss to Aiken on buzzer beater

AIKEN -- USCB men's basketball held a lead for much of the game, but the Pacers crept their way back in the final minutes and caused heartbreak in the Lowcountry as Tyler Johnson hit a buzzer beater to defeat the Sand Sharks 76-74 last night at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.

Nolan Paladugu led the way for the Sand Sharks offensively going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc, recording 21 points and Kevaughn Price added 16 points and Marcus Overstreet produced his 12th double-double of the season.

The Pacers jumped out to an early double-digit lead through the first half of the period but USCB's high octane offense quickly trimmed the lead to single digits and Anderson netted the game at 25 with a beautiful reverse layup with 4:21 remaining in the half.

Aiken pulled off a quick 5-0 but Beaufort answered to tie it at 30 and Paladugu drained a triple to give the Sand Sharks its first lead of the night and it was a six-point lead heading into halftime.

USCB took control through the first six minutes extending its lead to 10 into the first media timeout. Aiken slowly chipped away at the double-digit lead, but the Sand Sharks defense continued to come up with stops. As the period continued the Pacers battled back to take the lead with under 30 seconds to play. Overstreet was pure from the line to make it a one-point game and after a foul made it a three-point Pacer advantage Price battled through a wave of Aiken defenders and hit a game-tying three-pointer with under five seconds to play.

The Pacers inbounded with four seconds on the clock and Johnson pulled and sunk a game-winning basket to take the game 76-74.

The Sand Sharks conclude the regular home schedule this Saturday against Flagler. The contest with Saints is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.
