Ninth inning rally falls just short as USCB swept by Jags

HARDEEVILLE -- Aiden Driscoll-Sadusky knotted the game in the fifth with an RBI single and collected three hits on the afternoon, but USCB's ninth inning rally fell just short as the tying run and go-ahead runs were stranded on base as the Jaguars completed the sweep of the Sand Sharks 6-4 Monday afternoon at the Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville.

Carson Weathers and John Leland both had multi-hit performances and Weather's also collected two RBIs to lead the offense. Starter Brandon Martin threw seven innings, allowing three runs, all earned with three strikeouts. Aiden Cooper (3-1) took the loss allowing two runs in the decisive ninth inning.

Augusta jumped out to a three-run lead through the first five innings, but the Sand Sharks tied it in the bottom half of that inning. The game remained scoreless for the next three innings, but the Jaguars opened the ninth with a leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt put the go-ahead run in scoring position. Koby Ayala doubled down the left field line, pushing two runs and Jags tacked on one more to make it a three-run ball game. John Leland walked to open the bottom of the ninth and two singles loaded the bases and Hunter Miller earned a bases loaded walk to make it 6-4, but Josh Patterson flied out to end the game.

Tomorrow's game against Francis Marion has been postponed after the weekend's weather forced this series to move to Sunday and Monday. The Sand Sharks will host Lander for a three-game series beginning Friday.
