Reynolds blast a pair of homers; USCB falls in series vs Lander

HARDEEVILLE -- Addie Reynold continued to produce the power out of the middle of USCB's lineup, blasting two more home runs, but the Sand Sharks fell in the final two games to Lander 7-5 and 8-5 Saturday afternoon at the Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville.

The junior catcher went 3-for-5 in the doubleheader with the two long balls with five runs batted in. Taelor Chang collected three hits on the weekend including her third homer of the year while both Devon Weller and Tamiyah Whitlock each put together multi-hit and RBI performances.

Abigail Ramirez (1-4) took the losses in the circle for the Sand Sharks despite putting together two brilliant outings out of the pen. She worked 7.2 innings allowing only three earned runs with seven punch outs.

USCB jumped out early in game one, after allowing a single run to score in the top of the first the Sand Sharks came back and scored three after Weller's RBI single and Chang's two run shot to left center. Lander tied it in the second and took a two-run lead the next inning. Beaufort knotted the game at five in the bottom half of the inning following Whitlock's two-run double.

Lander added single runs in the sixth and seventh to take game two, 7-5.

In the nightcap, Reynolds put the Sand Sharks up 5-0 after blasting home runs in the first and third. Beaufort's starter, Cierra Kinlaw was dialed in through the first five innings. Lander opened the sixth with home run, and that was followed up with a double and a second long ball that chased Kinlaw. Ramirez came out of the pen and ended the Bearcats' threat.

Lander scored four runs in the top of the seventh and USCB tried to rally back the Bearcats got Daryn Miller to groundout to the pitcher to end the game.

The Sand Sharks host Lees-McRae Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader before heading up to rival USC Aiken this weekend to continue conference play.
