Kinlaw tosses gem, Fore, Reynolds go yard as USCB sweeps Lees-McRae

HARDEEVILLE -- USCB softball picked up a pair of non-conference victories over visiting Lees-McRae Thursday afternoon as the Sand Sharks took game one 2-0 and then erupted for 13 runs in game two to win 13-3 at the Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville.

Cierra Kinlaw (5-2) threw a complete game shutout in game one, allowing only four hits while recording six strikeouts. USCB broke through in the fifth following a wild pitch that scored Katelyn Boyette. Jaden Goodwin added a sacrifice fly a batter later to make it 2-0. Kinlaw worked around a one out single in the sixth and walk in the seventh to finish off the shutout.

Game two began with the Bobcats scoring two in the top half of the first, but Beaufort's exploded for eight runs the next half inning, sparked by Addie Reynold's game-tying two run homer to right center - her fourth home run in three games - and Taelor Chang kept the inning going with a double to left. Four bases on balls followed, bringing Goodwin to the plate who plated two more with a double to center. Daryn Miller capped the scoring with a two-run single to right.

Goodwin added two more runs batted in two innings later after she ripped a double into left field. The mercy rule was put into effect after Makenzie Fore crushed a three-run bomb to left centerfield and Abigail Ramirez came in relief of starter Cassie Brundage (6-1) to close out the 13-3 victory.

The Sand Sharks travel to rival USC Aiken this weekend for a three-game series. Originally scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday has now been moved to a doubleheader Sunday and a single game on Monday.
