Sand Sharks take series finale in extras over Grizzlies

LAWRENCEVILLE -- USCB softball picked up a momentum making series victory, splitting the doubleheader with Georgia Gwinnett Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville at the Grizzlie Softball Complex, falling in opener 9-6 before clinching series with a 3-2 win in 8 innings in game two powered by the right side of the Sand Sharks infield, Makenzie Fore and Chloe Turner

Game One
Georgia Gwinnett pushed across four runs in the first inning after the first seven batters of the game reached, chasing starter Abigail Ramirez after just a third of an inning. Cassie Brundage (7-4) entered and got the last two outs of the inning with groundouts to Turner at second.
 
Beaufort exploded for six runs in the third inning which got kickstarted by walks to Jaci Coleman and Addie Reynolds. USCB then loaded the bases and Fore worked a bases loaded walk bringing home the Sand Shark's first run. A fielding error allowed another run to score before Turner blasted a two-run double to left field. Jaden Goodwin and Daryn Miller followed with run scoring hits to cap the six-run inning.
 
The Grizzlies pushed across a single run in the bottom half of the inning and the took the lead on Jane Hoover's fourth inning two-run single. GGC tacked on two more runs in the following inning to make it a 9-6 game. USCB had a runner reach via am error, but Turner lined out to third to end the ball game.

Game Two
Scoreless through the first five innings, the Sand Sharks finally broke through as Chloe Turner crushed her second home run of the season, but the Grizzlies answered with two unearned runs in the bottom half of the inning. Both starters worked a scoreless seventh before Fore's game-winning RBI in the eighth. With the international tie-breaker rule in place, Tamiyah Whitlock started the inning off at second and then advanced to third on Goodwin's groundout to the right side. 

After Miller flew out to center, Beaufort's first baseman ripped an single into left allowing Whitlock to walk home and give the Sand Sharks the lead. Cierra Kinlaw (8-6) worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half of the eighth to clinch the series for USCB. 

The Sand Sharks return to Hardeeville this weekend as it'll host senior weekend against Columbus State. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
