USCB to open 2025 slate versus Clayton State

BLUFFTON -- After ending the 2024 portion of its schedule with an impressive 88-32 victory over Regent, USCB looks to continue its strong play as the Sand Sharks welcome conference foe Clayton State to the Cove on Saturday, Jan. 4.
The Lakers took both meetings last season with scores of 62-48 in January and 62-55 in Bluffton the following month.

USCB currently stands at 2-7 on the season picking up wins over Paine College and Regent. The Sand Sharks have been led by junior Lydia Gattozzi who has made a strong comeback after missing all of last season due to injury. She currently ranks fourth in the PBC in scoring, averaging 15.4 points per game.

2023-24 Freshman of the Year, Janiyah Heyward made her season debut in the victory over the Royals on Dec. 17 and immediately made an impact for Beaufort. She scored 15 points while pulling down 10 rebounds while also adding five assists and four steals. Her presence will play a factor as the conference season progresses.

USCB opened conference play against Augusta and fell to the Jags 70-52. However, the Sand Sharks spent most of the first two months of the season without a full squad as four players were out due to injury; they'll aim to have all players available come Jan. 4.

Clayton State's non-conference schedule has been tough thus far in 24-25 as the Lakers are sitting at 3-8. Senior Jadah Waite leads the way for the Lakers in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game.

Tip-off for Saturday's conference home opener is set for 1:30 p.m. inside the Cove.
