10-run seventh makes it interesting, but Sand Sharks fall in Opening Day twin bill

HARDEEVILLE -- USCB gave the No. 8 ranked North Greenville everything it had in game one of Friday's Opening Day doubleheaders, but the Trailblazer's potent offense capitalized in extras to win 13-11 in 10 innings and then took game two 29-3.

The Trailblazer had the bats working in the first inning, jumping out to a 6-0 on thanks to a pair of homers in the inning. NGU's lead would extend to 10-0 heading into the seventh; but that's where the fireworks began. Copper McDaniel led the inning off with a single and score on Joe Turner's two-run blast to left. USCB continued to tack on with Jake Tanner's two-run single to left.

Terry Dean scored on a wild pitch and Luke Doty's bunt single brought home another. Consecutive hit by pitches led to two more Beaufort runs as the lineup turned over. Jeremy Brown and Carson Weathers capped the 10-run inning with back-to-back sacrifice flies to tie the game at 10.

The two teams matched zeroes in the eighth and ninth innings, but it was North Greenville that got the big blow as Alton Gyselman blasted a go-ahead two run shot to left center. NGU added another run for good measure, but USCB didn't go quietly as Brown made it interesting drilling a solo homer, but back-to-back strikeouts ended game one.

North Greenville's offense was electric in game two, scoring in every inning and shutting out the Sand Sharks for until the seventh when Cade Sikoski doubled home two and Doty's second RBI knock of the day scored the third Beaufort run.

The series continues tomorrow afternoon in Hardeeville with another twin bill beginning at 12 p.m.
