Bostic's record breaking day leads USCB to victory over Lakers

BLUFFTON -- Sheridan Bostic returned to the court with a fury rattling off a program-best seven three-pointers in only 22 minutes of action as the Sand Sharks picked up a 62-55 win over visiting Clayton State Saturday afternoon.

Bostic's 21points led the way for USCB and both Brielle Bartlet and Lydia Gattozzi put together double-digit performances with 12 and 11 points, respectively. And Janiyah Heyward added eight points while picking up a game-high seven rebounds while Madison Self also pulled down seven boards.

The teams traded buckets during the opening minutes before the first media timeout and the score was tied at eight with 2:31 remaining in the first period. Sheridan Bostic sunk a triple from the wing and Self's jumper gave USCB a four-point lead after 10 minutes of play. The Sand Sharks maintained the two score advantage as the second quarter progressed, but Bostic's second three-pointer increased Beaufort's lead. The fifth-year senior caught fire in the final minutes of the half, knocking down another three triples to put the Sand Sharks up 16 at the half.

The Sand Sharks continued to control the third quarter, defeating the Lakers press on nearly every possession. Bostic stayed hot connecting with her sixth triple of the game. Clayton State slowly chipped away at the lead, but USCB continued to play lock down defense, keeping the momentum towards the navy and sand. After giving up a basket with four seconds remaining Beaufort tackled the Lakers defense and Arie'a Garrett hit the buzzer beater to end the third. Bartelt hit a jumper from the elbow to make it a 15-point game to open the final period, but CSU used a 7-2 run over a two-and-a-half-minute span to cut the lead to six.

Heyward scored the Sand Sharks next four points to recapture the double-digit lead with 2:15 left to play. CSU scored five points as clock ticked down under 10 seconds but a missed three-point attempt from Jadah White and an ensuing foul accorded putting Taniyah Bowman at the charity stripe. And another missed three-pointer from Clayton State gave USCB the victory.

The Sand Sharks hit the road next week as conference play continues in Greenwood against Lander. Tipoff versus the Bearcats is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Finis Horne Arena.
