Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sand Sharks Fall on the Road Against Lander

GREENWOOD, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) women's soccer team was on the road Saturday afternoon for a Peach Belt Conference matchup. Lander University scored the only goal of the match early in the second half to edge out the Sand Sharks, 1-0.

"I thought we played well for 89 minutes. And sometimes that's
what can kill you in this game", stated head coach Gary Boughton

With the loss, the Sand Sharks fall to 9-3-2 overall and 3-3-2 in
conference play. Lander improves to 8-2-2 overall and 5-1-1
in the conference.

"We're striving for greatness. And the great teams make fewer mistakes to not lose games. Credit to Lander for their goal
for sure, but when we make one mistake that leads to another and another in one stretch of play,
that's the difference" said head coach Gary Boughton.

USCB outshot Lander 13-10, including 7-4 in shots on goal. Jasiah Pack led the Sand Sharks with four shots, two of which were on target.

The Sand Sharks had early scoring chances in the first half. Their first shot on goal came at the 10:36 mark, followed by another within five minutes both saved by the Lander goalkeeper. USCB had three shots in that span while searching for the game's opening goal.

Goalkeeper Graysen Asher made her first save midway through the first half to keep the match scoreless. At the 24-minute mark, USCB produced two more shots on target off a cross but the shot was saved, and the game remained 0-0 heading into halftime.

Lander broke the tie early in the second half, scoring at the 50-minute mark after two initial attempts, one blocked and one saved before striking and capitalizing on the third try as the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead.

USCB responded with three shots on goal later in the second half, including two late in the match in an effort to equalize, but Lander held defensively to seal the 1-0 victory.

The Sand Sharks return home for two matches next week, starting Wednesday afternoon against Columbus State on October 22nd at 3:00 PM.
