Sand Sharks Battle No. 22 Embry-Riddle to 1-1 Draw in Regular Season Finale

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA — The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against No. 22-ranked Embry-Riddle. Both teams traded goals in the second half.

With the tie, the Sand Sharks move to 9-5-4 on the season, while Embry-Riddle sits at 6-0-9.

Graysen Asher started in goal for the Sand Sharks, recording two saves over 90 minutes. USCB was outshot 6–5 in the match. Maggie Olsen scored the lone goal for the Sand Sharks, her fourth of the season, as Alice Webster had the assist.

The first half was a defensive battle, as both sides were limited in shot attempts. Asher made her first save at the 14-minute mark, which was also the first shot of the game by either team. That proved to be the only shot on goal in the opening half.

Embry-Riddle earned three corner kicks in the half, but the Sand Shark defense held strong, keeping the match even at 0-0. USCB's first shot came in the 35th minute, but the score remained 0-0.

Neither team found the back of the net before halftime, sending the match into the break scoreless.

The Eagles struck first just five minutes into the second half, as Lara converted a pass from Thrastardottir to put the home team ahead 1-0.

Fifteen minutes later, in the 64th minute, Maggie Olsen delivered the equalizer off a pass from Alice Webster, who had the assist after setting up the scoring opportunity.

The Sand Shark defense held strong down the stretch, stopping two Embry-Riddle corner kicks before coming close to taking the lead with one final shot that hit the post as the score remained tied 1-1.

After 90 minutes of play, the match ended in a 1-1 draw to close out the regular season.

Up next, the Sand Sharks will compete in the Peach Belt Conference playoffs on Saturday, November 8.
