COCHRAN, GEORGIA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort men's basketball team was on the road Saturday for a conference matchup against Middle Georgia. The Sand Sharks earned a 93–85 victory after outscoring the Knights (4-7, 0-4) by 12 points in the second half, for the second straight win.
The Sand Sharks (8-3, 2-2) had balanced offensive attack with five players scoring in double figures, led by Evan Kilminster's 22 points. Dominic Eason, Israel Eatman, Dylan Lewis, and Kevaughn Price also reached double figures. Ismail Rashid led the team on the glass with eight rebounds, while Seth Cullen added nine points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Middle Georgia jumped out early, scoring the game's first six points while holding the Sand Sharks scoreless through the opening two minutes. Seth Cullen opened the scoring for USCB with a layup assisted by Hudson Norton. Dylan Lewis followed with five straight points, including his first three-pointer of the game. Kilminster tied the score at 12–12 at the 13-minute mark with an assist from Rashid.
After the game was tied, Middle Georgia went on a seven-point run to regain the lead. Eatman answered for the Sand Sharks with five straight points to keep USCB within one at 21–20 with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Eason tied the game with a three-pointer before Eatman knocked down his second triple to give the Sand Sharks their first lead at 26–25. Middle Georgia closed the half with another run, but Eatman's third three-pointer cut the deficit to one at 33–32. In the final minute, Cullen hit the final basket of the half as USCB trailed 41–37 at the break.
Middle Georgia opened the second half with the first five points to extend its lead to nine. The teams traded baskets over the next four minutes as the Knights maintained the advantage.
Cullen sparked the comeback with a three-pointer, followed by a layup from Eason to cut the deficit to four. At the 13:30 mark, Nolan Paladugu started a second run after hitting back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 59–59. Paladugu then scored again off a steal leading to the fast break to give USCB a 61–59 lead.
Eason later tied the game at 64–64 with 10 minutes remaining before the Sand Sharks made the final push. USCB used a 14–4 run over the next four minutes to take a 76–68 lead following a Cullen put-back layup. Kilminster pushed the lead into double digits for the first time with a three-pointer as the Sand Sharks' strong second half continued.
USCB maintained control over the final six minutes, answering the Middle Georgia run. The Knights cut the lead to as few as four, but Rashid's late free throws sealed the 93–85 conference victory.
The Sand Sharks shot 54.3 percent in the second half and out rebounded Middle Georgia 23–10 after halftime, including an 8–3 edge on the offensive glass to help spark the dominate second half.
USCB returns to action on the road next with a game at Georgia College & State University, scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. tip off on Wednesday.
