Davis, Doty lead way in loss to Mocs

LAKELAND -- USCB fell in its series opener 10-5 to Florida Southern Friday night at Henley Field, snapping its two-game win streak. 
 
Jon Davis, Luke Doty, and Joe Turner each had three hits for the Sand Sharks and Davis and Doty both drove in multiple runs in the game. 
 
Alex Simmons (0-1) took the loss on the hill lasting three innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits. The junior right hander struggled with his command, issuing four base on balls and only striking out three. 
 
The Mocs scored two in the first after Rohsean Riley's two-run, two out base hit. Doty's first RBI of the night made it one-run game in the second but after it was scoreless for the next two innings FSC plated three runs in the fourth. 
 
Doty cranked a solo homer to right in fifth, but Florida Southern countered by scoring two in the bottom half of the inning. Davis's run scoring triple cut into the lead and Cooper McDaniel added a sacrifice fly made it 7-4. The Mocs though hit homers in back-to-back innings to extend the lead and close out the 10-5 series opening win. 
 
The two teams continue the series Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
