Middle of lineup, pitching staff leads to sweep of Tigers

JACKSONVILLE -- Having not played a full game in nearly a week didn't slow down USCB's scorching offense. The middle of the lineup provided plenty of runs as the Sand Sharks swept a midweek doubleheader versus Edward Waters Thursday, taking game one 5-3 and game two 9-3, extending its win streak to four straight.

Beaufort's .346 team batting average is second overall in the PBC, and the team's 12 homers and 89 RBI tops the league.

Taelor Chang went 4-for-8 on the day with eight runs batted in while Saria Simmons collected four hits in six Abs. Chloe Turner picked up two hits and drove in four on the afternoon.

Cierra Kinlaw (5-1) continued to shine in the circle, tossing her fifth complete game of the season allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Cassie Brundage (4-1) put together another solid performance, throwing her first complete game of the season. She allowed three runs on eight hits.

GAME ONE
Kinlaw allowed a first inning run on an RBI triple, but the bats backed their starter answering with two runs two innings later. Goodwin singled home Katelynn Boyette and Turner drove in the second run with a sac fly. Taelor Chang's run scoring double in the fifth padded USCB's lead and the Lebanon, Tennessee native drove home another in the seven. Turner's second sacrifice fly of the game gave the Sand Sharks a 5-1 advantage in the seventh.

Kylah's second RBI triple of the day made it 5-2 and Brooke Rice singled up the middle to make it 5-3 but Beaufort's ace got the last two outs with a ground out and a fly out.

GAME TWO
The 2,4, and 5 hitters for the Sand Sharks carried the offense in game two. Simmons went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs driven in while Chang picked up an additional three RBIs and Turner went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

USCB scored two runs in the first and followed that up with five in the second. Beaufort was kept scoreless for the next three innings before Chang and Simmons drove in the final two runs. Edward Waters plated one in the first and two in the second but were kept off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

The Sand Sharks travel to Hartsville this weekend for a doubleheader with Coker beginning at 1 p.m.
