USCB concludes road schedule with loss to Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE -- USCB wrapped up its road portion of the schedule Saturday falling to the Flagler Saints 75-56 inside the Flagler Gymnasium.
 
Flagler jumped up by a touchdown before Gattozzi ended the drought with a turnaround layup. The Saints extended its lead to double digits, but Heyward got a baseball pass down the court and finished while drawing the foul, making it an eight-point FC lead. Beaufort trimmed it down to four-points, but a score and free throw made it 18-11 after the first 10 minutes. 
 
Consecutive buckets put the Saints back on top by double-figures before Bartelt's jumper through traffic. Bowman picked up a rebound and raced to the basket but was fouled and failed to convert the free throws. USCB went into a cold spell and FC took a 15-point advantage into the media timeout. Pelote scored a quick four points as the quarter came to a close and the Sand Sharks were down 11 at the break.
 
The Saints began the third on a 5-0 run, but Gattozzi and Pelote scored a quick four points before Flagler burned a timeout with 7:06 left in the period. The lead grew to as large as 17 with under three minutes remaining for FC before exchanging baskets on the next number of possessions. 
 
Flagler took control in the fourth and hung on for the 19-point win. 
 
USCB returns home for the final week of the regular season with a matchup against Columbus State on Wednesday set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Cove.
