Williams in 4th after two rounds; USCB leads field at 7-under

BLUFFTON -- After the first two rounds of the Oldfield Classic, the USCB men's golf team holds a 14-stroke lead over second place Shorter following 36 holes of play, sitting at -7 under as a team.

The Sand Sharks as a team carded a -1 under 287 in the first round. Led by Nikolai Holme and Erik Rengardt's 2-under USCB held a one stroke lead over Shorter. Aaron Wiliams finished round two with a 5-under 67 and heads into Tuesday's final round in fourth place at 3-under for the tournament.

Holme started his day off with a bogey on the par 4 second, but he quickly righted the ship and finished the front nine with birdies on holes 4 and 8. After making the turn he pared 10 and 11 before picking up a birdie on 12. Four straight pars followed, and he would bogey 17, birdie 18 and end his round with a par on number 1.

Rengardt was 1-under through the first four holes and the carded a double bogey on the par 4 5th. A birdie and bogey followed with pars on holes 8 and 9. He would bogey 10 but then picked up an eagle on the par 5 11th and card another birdie on 12. Rengardt rattled off five consecutive pars and conclude his round with a birdie on 18.

Ellis Bright and Williams rounded out the scorers for Beaufort with Ellis carding a 1-over 73 and Williams a 2-over 74.

Williams carded five birdies through the first 16 holes and finished round two with birdie on number 18 to head into the clubhouse with a 67. Bright moved his way up the leaderboard shooting 2-under in the second round. Eric Nord finished the afternoon at 3-over after a solid 1-under second round. Holme and Rengardt finished their second rounds at 2-over and 3-over respectively.

The Sand Sharks and the rest of the field tee off for the final round tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
