Bats silenced in series opener vs Canes

AMERICUS -- The Sand Sharks took advantage of the three Georgia Southwestern errors, but the strong USCB offense struggled in the series opener, mustering only four hits in a 13-3, 7 inning loss Friday night to the Hurricanes.
 
Jeremy Brown, Luke Doty, Cooper McDaniel, and Jake Tanner each had one hit while Nikko Andre, Noah Campbell, and Brown drove in runs. Joe Turner (1-2) took the loss, while struggling to find the strike zone. He lasted only 3.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits but issued five base on balls.
 
USCB plated its first run courtesy of a Hurricanes fielding error. GSW then tagged Turner for three runs in the bottom half of the inning, forcing coach Ted Falkner to turn to his bullpen in just the fourth inning. 
 
Georgia Southwestern tacked on seven runs two innings later after four RBI base hits, a sacrifice fly, and wild pitch. The Sand Sharks scored a second run via an error before Brown's run scoring single to the left centerfield gap, scored Andre. 
 
The Hurricanes pushed across another three runs in the bottom of the seventh, ending the game via the mercy rule. 
 
The series continues tomorrow afternoon with a 2 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
