Trio of Fore, Goodwin, and Turner power Sand Sharks to home opening sweep

HARDEEVILLE -- The Sand Sharks know how to put together a strong performance in front of the home crowd as USCB ran its win streak to five games after sweeping the doubleheader against Eckerd Saturday afternoon, taking game one 3-2 and winning 8-1 in the night cap at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.

Makenzie Fore's power surge continued as she blasted a three-run homer and drove in five on the afternoon. Jaden Goodwin added two hits and a game-winning RBI in the opener and Chloe Turner collected three hits in game two.

Cierra Kinlaw (3-0) and Madison Murphy (2-1) picked up the W's for Beaufort's pitching staff. Kinlaw, the senior lefty went the distance allowing just two runs with five strikeouts while Murphy was dominant also throwing a complete game, allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

After matching zeroes through the first two innings, it was Fore's scorching bat that again put a dent on the scoreboard for the Sand Sharks. The senior first baseman plated two with a double in the third inning. Eckerd battled back to tie the game the following frame after Hannah Taylor's solo shot and then Abby Lucas' RBI ground out.

Kinlaw worked out seventh inning game after allowing runners to reach scoring position by striking out Lex Difato and getting Taylor to foul out to Saria Simmons in right.

That set the stage for USCB in the bottom half of the inning. Tamiyah Whitlock led off with a single and ended up on third after a two-base error by the left fielder Lucas. Goodwin re-entered after an injury earlier in the ball game and sent the first pitch she saw into the right centerfield gap for the walk off double.

Tamiyah Whitlock scored on a wild pitch in the first inning of game two and then drove in the first of her three runs with a sharp grounder up the middle. Addie Reyniold added an insurance run with an RBI double in the fifth. But it was Fore's big bat that put it all together for the Sand Sharks she sent a pitch deep into left field for her third homer of the week.

USCB hits the road on Wednesday for a weekday clash with Francis Marion. First pitch versus the Patriots is set for 3 p.m. in Florence.
