USCB outhits Bearcats, drop PBC opener on the road

GREENWOOD -- Even though USCB outhit Lander 7-5 in Saturday's Peach Belt Conference opener, the Sand Sharks fell to the Bearcats 2-0. The series will conclude tomorrow at 1 p.m. 

The top of the order supplied four hits, two hits from both Saria Simmons and Tamiyah Whitlock. Katelyn Boyette also had two hits and Daryn Miller had one. Cierra Kinlaw (6-3) was tabbed with the loss. The senior lefty went the distance, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with five punch outs. She issued just one walk on the afternoon. 

The Bearcats pushed both runs in the fifth inning first with a ground out and then with a single up the middle. 

USCB had runners in scoring position in the fifth after a error, passed ball, and a hit, but the inning ended with a popout to second.
