HARDEEVILLEÂ --Â USCB struggled to contain Embry-Riddle's high-powered offense on Tuesday afternoon, falling 18-3 at the Richard Gray Sports Complex. The Sand Sharks' only offensive breakthrough came in the fourth inning, when they managed to push across three runs before ultimately succumbing to the Eagles' relentless attack.
Embry-Riddle scored in every inning except the fifth, posting three or more runs in four different frames.
Trailing 10-0, USC Beaufort opened the bottom of the fourth with an Andrew Walters walk. Noah Campbell followed with a double down the left-field line, and Jeremy Brown drove in both runs with a base hit up the middle. Carson Weathers walked to put another runner in scoring position, and after back-to-back strikeouts, Cade Sikoski laced a single to right, scoring the Sand Sharks' final run of the game.
After a scoreless fifth, the Eagles put up five runs in the sixth and tacked on three more in the seventh, invoking the 10-run mercy rule.
USCB will open the home portion of its PBC schedule this weekend against North Georgia. The series begins on Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch in Hardeeville.
