PAWLEY'S ISLAND -- The No. 15-ranked USC Beaufort (USCB) men's golf team battled to a second-place finish at the Pawley's Island Beach Bash, finishing just one stroke behind the winner. The Sand Sharks posted a 2-over-par 589 team score, finishing behind No. 25 Wayne State in a tightly contested final round.
Erik Rengardt showcased his poise on the course, carding an even-par 72 to secure a sixth-place individual finish. The freshman stayed steady throughout his round, recording a 1-under score on the front nine, highlighted by a birdie on hole nine. He remained under par until a bogey on the par-4 15th hole. However, he closed out the round at level par to cap off a strong tournament performance.
Aaron Williams started his round with a flourish, sinking birdies on two of the first three holes. However, a string of four bogeys over the next seven holes slowed his momentum. The resilient Sand Shark responded with five consecutive pars and a birdie on hole 16, ultimately signing for a 1-over 73 to finish inside the top 10.
Nikolai Holme opened with a birdie on the first hole and remained steady at 1-under through five. However, Holme carded four consecutive bogeys to close out the front nine. He responded on the back nine with birdies on holes 10 and 12 but could not recover fully, finishing the round at 3-over.
Ellis Bright endured a challenging round, dropping eight spots on the leaderboard with a 6-over 78 to finish 11th overall. Meanwhile, Nicolas Normand rounded out the USCB lineup with an 8-over round.
Beaufort returns to the course on Monday at the Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate hosted by Wingate beginning Monday, March 17.Â
