Sand Sharks drop doubleheader to Lander to wrap up series

GREENWOOD -- A tough weekend concluded for USCB on Saturday as the Sand Sharks dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Lander, falling 6-4 in the opener and 11-1 in game two.

GAME ONE
Lander took an early 5-0 lead through two innings. Grant Sherrod brought home the Bearcats' sixth run in the seventh. The Lander pitching staff kept Beaufort off the board through seven innings, but USCB broke through in the eighth.

Carson Weathers blasted his second home run of the season, plating the Sand Sharks' first two runs. Jeremy Brown added to his team-leading home run total just three batters later, launching his sixth of the season.

GAME TWO
Brown tallied his third RBI of the day with a single in the first inning, but that would be the only run Beaufort managed. Lander answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.

The Bearcats added two in the third, three in the fifth, and two more in the seventh to invoke the 10-run mercy rule. Starter Ian Barnes (0-5) lasted just two innings, allowing six runs on five hits.

USCB returns home Tuesday to host Middle Georgia, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
