ALBANY, GEORGIA — The Sand Sharks Men's Golf team opened play at the Hurricane Invitational on Monday, completing the first two rounds of the three-round tournament. USC Beaufort sits tied for second in a competitive 15-team field. Georgia Southwestern is hosting the invitational at Doublegate CC.
Florida Southern leads the event after day one with 576 (E), with the Sand Sharks just three strokes behind (579), tied for second with Columbus State and Wingate. After an opening-round 293 (+5), USCB bounced back with an impressive second-round 286 (-2), bringing their day one total to 579 (+3).
Nikolai Holme led the Sand Sharks, finishing the day tied for fifth individually with a total score of 142 (-2). His best round came in the second of the afternoon, carding a 69 with seven birdies and 21 pars. Holme also recorded one eagle one of only 10 golfers in the field to do so on day one.
Octavio Laurent followed closely, ending the day in eighth place with a score of 143 (-1), matching Holme's second-round 69. Laurent recorded seven birdies and 23 pars across both rounds.
Christofer Hammar sits in 21st place after day one with a total of 147. His best round came in the morning with an even-par 72. Hammar led the team with 25 pars and added four birdies during the day.
Alfie Reynolds is currently 40th overall with a two-round total of 150. He showed improvement in round two, shooting a 73 seven strokes better than his opening round. Reynolds finished the day with seven birdies and 18 pars.
Dylan Allen rounded out the Sand Sharks lineup, finishing day one with a total of 153, placing him 55th overall. His best round was a 74 in the morning. Allen tallied 18 pars and seven birdies on the day.
The Sand Sharks will wrap up the Hurricane Invitational on Tuesday, September 23, with tee times beginning at 8:30 AM.
