Sand Sharks Fall in Non-Conference Game Against the Eagles

BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — University of South Carolina Beaufort soccer faced Embry-Riddle on Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the Eagles after two unanswered second half goals following the Sand Sharks' equalizer in the first half.

USCB moves to 6-8-2 overall with a 2-5-2 record in conference play, while Embry-Riddle improves to 7-4-4 on the season.

Gabriela Colon scored the goal for the Sand Sharks in the 14th minute, as USCB finished with 12 shots. Graysen Asher started in goal and recorded six saves on the afternoon.

USCB looked to strike early, creating a scoring opportunity in the opening minutes with a shot that went wide before earning a corner kick. However, the Eagles kept the Sand Sharks off the scoreboard. Embry-Riddle responded with a scoring opportunity of its own, hitting the post with its first shot before forcing a save.

The Eagles struck first in the eighth minute after gaining possession just outside the box. Asher saved the initial attempt, but Ebba Fjordskaer converted the rebound to give Embry-Riddle a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Colon found the equalizer to bring the even at 1-1. After the Sand Sharks regained possession in their defensive end, Colon down the left side, beat a defender, and sent a left-footed shot over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

The score remained tied at 1-1 through the first 45 minutes, with the teams heading into halftime even.

Embry-Riddle recorded the first shot of the second half before USCB generated two attempts, including one on target that was saved by the Eagles' goalkeeper.

Asher then made two additional saves before Embry-Riddle regained the lead in the 68th minute on a goal by Berglind Thrastardottir, putting the Eagles ahead 2-1.

The Eagles extended their advantage in the 81st minute when Lisa Elowsson found the back of the net to make it 3-1.

USCB generated a few late scoring opportunities and added a couple of shots, but Embry-Riddle held on for the 3-1 victory on the road.

The Sand Sharks close out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Lenoir-Rhyne at Finland Field for the 2026 Senior Day game.
