AMERICUS, GEORGIA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort women's soccer team was in action Saturday evening for a conference matchup against the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes, as the two teams battled through a defensive contest to a 0-0 draw.
The draw marks the first tie of the season for the Sand Sharks, who are now 5-5-1 on the season with a 1-3-1 conference record. Georgia Southwestern is now 1-3-5 on the year with a 0-1-3 conference record.
Graysen Asher started in goal, earning her second shutout of the season and the team's third shutout of the year. Isabella Franco led the team with two shots on goal.
In the opening half, the Sand Sharks had a corner kick opportunity just under three minutes into the game, but the GSW defense was able to keep USCB off the board. In a defensive battle that lasted the full 90 minutes, Georgia Southwestern recorded the first shot of the game in the eighth minute.
The Sand Sharks recorded the first shot on goal of the game, as Isabella Franco put one on frame, but GSW goalkeeper Alana Beddow made the save. Asher recorded her first save of the game on a shot from Georgia Southwestern off a free kick, keeping the game tied at 0-0.
Overall, the Sand Sharks outshot the Hurricanes 2-1 on goal in the opening half while also earning more corner kicks, 4-2, before the teams headed into the break locked at 0-0.
The Hurricanes looked to strike early in the second half with a shot on goal just 20 seconds into the half, but Asher made the save. USCB, looking to do the same, recorded the next two shots on goal, with both being saved by the Georgia Southwestern goalkeeper.
In an even second half in terms of shots, the two sides finished 4-4, while USCB earned five corner kicks in the half.
The two teams ultimately played to an even 0-0 draw in the conference matchup.
USCB will return home for two games this upcoming week, starting with Flagler on October 7 at Fineland Field before closing the week with a game against Lander on Saturday, October 10.
