AMERICUS, GEORGIA — The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team opened a three-game series against the Georgia Southwestern State Hurricanes on Friday. The Hurricanes used a six-run second inning to build a 7–0 lead before closing out a 10–0 win.

The Sand Sharks drop to 3–3 on the season with an 0–1 conference record. Georgia Southwestern improves to 5–4 overall and 1–0 in Peach Belt Conference play.

USCB recorded hits from Luke Doty, Cooper McDaniel, and Joe Turner, while Andrew Walters reached base safely twice on walks.

The Sand Sharks looked to score first after McDaniel walked to reach base before stealing second going in scoring position, but Georgia Southwestern worked around the jam to keep the game scoreless.

The Hurricanes struck first in the bottom of the inning. After back-to-back strikeouts to start the frame, a two-out double led to an RBI single, giving the Hurricanes an early 1–0 lead.

Georgia Southwestern added six runs on three hits in the second inning. Two walks set up three RBI singles as the deficit grew to 4–0. The Hurricanes pushed across three more runs in the inning to take a 7–0 lead. A solo home run an inning later extended the Georgia Southwestern advantage to 8–0.

USCB had a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning after a two-out double and a single by Turner and Doty put runners on the corners, but the Hurricanes worked out of trouble. The Sand Sharks threatened once more in the sixth, loading the bases, but Georgia Southwestern maintained its 9–0 lead.

Georgia Southwestern added the final run in the seventh inning on an RBI single to right field, sealing the 10–0 victory Friday evening in Game 1 of the series.

The series concludes Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern State, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
