BLUFFTON, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort Men's Basketball team faced the Clayton State Lakers Saturday evening in the final game of the season series and their last regular-season home game. USCB honored senior Kevaughn Price, who scored 14 points on Senior Day, helping the Sand Sharks to a 105-82 victory.
USCB improves to 19-8 on the season with a 13-6 Peach Belt Conference record.
The Sand Sharks were led by 21 points from Qurahn Anderson, one of six players in double figures, including all five starters. Dominic Eason added 16 points, Price contributed 14, Dylan Lewis scored 13, Evan Kilminster added 11, and Nolan Paladugu chipped in 10.
Price opened the scoring with a slam dunk assisted by Kilminster for an early 2-0 lead. USCB scored the first five points as Dylan Lewis followed with a three-pointer. Paladugu hit his first three-pointer of the game to push the Sand Sharks ahead by eight early in the first half. The lead continued to grow as Lukas Platauna helped the Sand Sharks reach a nine-point advantage four minutes into the game.
USCB pushed the lead to double digits for the first time at 21-11 following a layup by Anderson. Clayton State answered with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit in half, but Price ended their run with a score of his own, keeping the Sand Sharks ahead by seven. A Price steal leading to a Lewis dunk extended the lead to 12.
As USCB continued to respond to each Clayton State run, the lead grew to 18 points following a 9-0 run, with Seth Cullen pushing the lead to 20, the largest of the first half. The 20-point margin occurred twice more on a layup by Caden Douglass.
Clayton State scored in the closing seconds of the half, leaving USCB with an 18-point lead at 58-40 heading into halftime.
Price started the second half scoring for the Sand Sharks with a three-pointer assisted by Kilminster. Paladugu pushed the lead to 23, the largest margin to that point in the game. Clayton State answered with a 7-0 run, cutting the Sand Sharks' lead to 16.
A two-minute scoring drought was ended by Eason on a driving layup assisted by Kilminster. The Sand Sharks pushed the lead back to 20 on a Kilminster three-pointer, making it 87-67. Eason then hit a three-pointer to push USCB over the century mark, giving the Sand Sharks a 101-81 lead.
Ismail Rashid scored the final points of the game as USCB closed out the 105-82 victory over Clayton State, completing the season sweep of the Lakers.
The Sand Sharks have one final regular-season game before postseason play, traveling to North Georgia on Saturday, February 28.
