Baseball Falls in Game Two of Series Against North Georgia

HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team faced North Georgia on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the weekend's three-game series. The Nighthawks used a nine-run ninth inning to complete a comeback over the Sand Sharks, closing out a 15–6 win.

Cooper McDaniel and Luke Doty led the team with three hits each, while Nicholas Barcelo added two hits and a team-high four RBIs. Matt Navarro went six innings, allowing one earned run while striking out five. Cole Thomas pitched 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Navarro worked a perfect first inning before the Sand Sharks struck first offensively. McDaniel singled to lead off the inning, and Doty followed with an RBI single to score McDaniel and give USCB an early 1–0 lead. Navarro remained perfect through three innings before USCB extended the lead.

In the third inning, Campbell singled with Cade Sikoski on first to set up runners on the corners. McDaniel then delivered an RBI single up the middle to push USCB ahead 2–0. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Barcelo delivered a three-RBI double to clear the bases as Doty, McDaniel, and Campbell all scored, giving the Sand Sharks a 5–0 lead after three innings.

The Nighthawks got their first run in the fourth inning after a hit batter and a stolen base set up a runner in scoring position. An RBI single brought in their first run and cut the Sand Shark lead to 5–1.

The game remained 5–1 into the bottom of the fifth inning when McDaniel led off with a single before advancing to third. Barcelo then recorded his fourth RBI of the game with a bunt single, extending the lead back to five runs at 6–1.

In the sixth inning, North Georgia added two runs after an error started the rally. A single and a hit batter loaded the bases before a two-RBI double to left-center field cut the Sand Shark lead to 6–3.

The Nighthawks' comeback continued in the seventh inning as a double and back-to-back walks loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly brought in the first run of the inning, and a two-RBI single tied the game at 6–6 through seven innings.

The score remained tied entering the ninth inning when North Georgia went in front off of nine runs in the inning. The Nighthawks began the inning with two singles and a walk to load the bases. An RBI single gave the visitors their first lead of the game, and an error followed by another single pushed the lead to 9–6. Back-to-back walks with the bases loaded made it 11–6 before the final hit of the inning a grand slam, extended the lead to 15–6.

North Georgia closed out the 15–6 victory with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning.

The series will conclude Sunday afternoon against the Nighthawks, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
