HARDEEVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA – The University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team faced the University of South Carolina Aiken in game two of a three-game series at Richard Gray Sports Complex. The Pacers used a nine-run fifth inning to open a 13–1 lead before closing out a 13–2 win over the Sand Sharks.
The USCB offense was led by Nicholas Barcelo and Maddox Robinson, who each finished with a hit and an RBI. Tyler Gundelfinger and Raeder McIntire each scored a run, while Noah Campbell and Cooper McDaniel also recorded hits. Ryan Tayman and Nick Hainline delivered scoreless outings, with Hainline throwing two innings.
The Pacers jumped out early with a first-inning run after a leadoff double came around to score on an RBI groundout to second base for a 1–0 lead.
USCB looked to answer with a leadoff single and a hit-by-pitch later in the inning, putting two runners on base, but a strikeout ended the threat, keeping the score at 1–0.
USCA added to its lead in the second inning after a single, a walk, and two wild pitches pushed across another run. Later in the inning, an RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly extended the Pacers' lead to 4–0.
The Sand Sharks got one run back in the second inning after a leadoff walk and a stolen base by McIntire led to an RBI single by Robinson, scoring McIntire and putting USCB on the board.
The score remained 4–1 entering the fifth inning. A leadoff walk and an error put two runners on base before an RBI single to left field made it 5–1. A second RBI single extended the lead to 7–1. Aiken then loaded the bases, and a single followed by a bases-clearing triple pushed the score to 11–1. The Pacers continued to add on with an RBI double and another RBI single, making it 13–1 after the top of the fifth.
USCB had two baserunners in the bottom of the inning, but with runners on second and third, a strikeout ended the inning. The Sand Sharks added their second run in the bottom of the sixth when a leadoff walk by Gundelfinger set up an RBI double by Barcelo down the left-field line.
The Pacers closed out the 13–2 win in seven innings to secure the series victory.
USCB will conclude the three-game set against the Pacers on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Richard Gray Sports Complex.
